     Roland X. McCloud, Jr., was born the son of Roland Xavier and Victoria McCloud, who were born in Port Glasgow, Scotland (1833) and Council Bluffs, Iowa, respectively.  Roland X. McCloud, Sr., married Victoria Anderson in 1850 after immigrating from Scotland, leaving behind his ailing father, William Daff McLeod.

     R. X. McCloud, Sr., served with the 13th U.S. Infantry, Company C, during the American Civil War, during the years 1862-1864.  McCloud was found to be unfit as an infantryman from having been wounded on numerous separate occassions.  Due to this, he was transferred to the 13th Infantry's artillery attachment where he was wounded severely during the siege of Vicksburg, 1863.  He was then honorably discharged on January 26, 1864, on expiration of service, as a Corporal of excellent character.

     Roland X. McCloud, Jr., enlisted as Cordero McLeod on September 3, 1873, at age 21, in Cincinnati, by Captain Isaac DeLaw.  Assigned to the 7th US Cavalry, Company G.  Promoted to Corporal via recommendation by Lt. Carlo DeRudio.  Previous Occupation was carpenter and cattle hand.  Married to Rebecca Janssen on December 26, 1873.  Three daughters, Constance, Madeline and Elizabeth.  Took part in the Black Hills Expedition of 1874.

     Transferred from Company G to F (Band Box Troop), per SO 5, Hq., 7th Cavalry, April 20, 1876.  He had blue eyes, dark hair, average complexion and was 6' tall.  Survived by his widow, 3 children, 3 sisters, father and mother.  Rebecca McCloud received a pension of $14 a month until her death on September 3, 1894.
