Becoming an "Official Real Bird Re-enactment Living Historian" is open to anyone who would like to portray a certain individual who was alive during the 1876 Sioux Campaign. It is the hope of the re-enactment's organizers that we can have everyone who participates (either annually or occasionally) to assume an alias of one of the gallant heroes of this fascinating time period. Of course, it is also known that not all participants are interested in this undertaking, as a select few simply use their own names. With this in mind, though we in no way wish to dictate how anyone wishes to take part in our production, there are certain prerequisites that must be enforced for those who do indeed wish to be recognized as a particular 1870's individual, prior to allowing just anyone to represent one of the remarkable characters. The individuals on the proceeding pages have proven that they have studied their portrayal’s biography and that they can adequately impersonate the cavalryman they have chosen in a living history setting. These personas likewise cannot be depicted by another re-enactor at this event unless consent is given by the current living historian portraying them. Any newcomers that would like to take on the task of honoring the memory of one of the soldiers (or warriors) at the Little Big Horn should speak with the Regimental Adjutant (McIntosh@US7thCavCoF.com) about the requirements and regulations in doing so. Once this is done, a recommendation will be presented to the General for his approval for the individual to become officially appointed to that role. Please be advised that portraying a historic individual in a living history setting does not force you to belong to the actual company for the re-enactment that that person did in 1876. For instance if you decide to portray 1876’s “Corporal James Martin of Company G” when speaking to the public, etc. about his life, this does not mean that you MUST participate in the re-enactment itself with Company G’s dismounted unit. However, upon joining a particular re-enacting unit, many people indeed do choose an alias to emulate from that unit. |
