Who We Are...
The Iowa Falls Living History Association is primarily a Civil War re-enactment group that portrays the 13th U.S. Infantry, Company C, during the American Civil War.  Many of our members are also involved in portraying other branches of the army and alternate time periods as well (including both military and non-military representations, as well as depicting female as well as male personas.  Because of this, we are also able to be involved in many other re-enactment opportunities across the Midwest throughout the year, portraying other time periods as well.
Our Primary Representation...
The 13th Regiment of the U.S. Infantry was created by the direction of the President on May 4, 1861.  After Congress' confirmation on July 29, the regiment was mustered in at the Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.  Company C was officially organized on November 13, 1861.
Being a regular army unit, the 13th drew the professional soldier to its ranks, unlike the hordes of civilian volunteers the states' regiments were drawing.  The regiment was a highly disciplined and polished unit which held the admiration of all those who witnessed it and were the workhorses of the battlefield Generals.
The 13th U.S. served in the Western theater in General Sherman's XV Corp.  Among their service during the war, they are probably best remembered as being the "
First at Vicksburg".
